  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): This condition affects the bowels, it causes pain and discomfort in the intestinal area. Up to 70% of fibromyalgia patients report gastrointestinal problems. IBS affects the regularity of bowel movements, some patients experience constipation while others experience diarrhea. All patients report symptoms of abdominal pain and bloating.
  • Sleep Disorders: Many patients with fibromyalgia report a difficulty sleeping and the inability to feel rested. Studies have taken place to investigate the sleep disorders associated with fibromyalgia. Some of these studies suggest that fibromyalgia is related to “alpha wave,” which is a sleep disorder that occurs because of the sleep being interrupted subconsciously. The brain activity does not rest long enough for the patient to feel into the REM cycle of sleep, as they begin to sleep deeply their brain activity interrupts the sleep pattern.
  • Restless Leg Syndrome: Some fibromyalgia patients have reported restless legs or muscle spasms that occur when they are trying to sleep.
  • Jaw pain or TMJ: About 25% of the fibromyalgia patients are diagnosed with Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ)- they report pain in the face and jaw.It is arguable whether the jaw pain is a result of a fibromylagia tender point, but some patients report jaw pain that is diagnosed as TMJ.
